Quad City Killers: A Chillingly Fun and Morbidly Entertaining Game Night for Friends and Family

Quad City Killers is a 1-6 player game where players compete to become the most notorious serial killer around Iowa and Illinois.

There are 2 decks that contain different cards.

One deck are the prey cards. These are the cards with the body sprawled on the back of them. They are your victims. Prey cards will be placed across the six cities in the states of Iowa and Illinois. Prey cards have 2 numbers at the top right hand corner of the card. The number in the shield indicates the number you have to beat in order to kill that person and the number in the star indicates how many points you will earn at the end of the game for killing that person.

The second deck contains a mixture of cards which will make up the players hand. These include weapons, scenarios, modifiers, ego and MO cards. These cards will help you with your kills as well as impacting your other player’s kills because that’s all part of the game right?

Each player has their own killer board which will give them some information about their killer. At the bottom of their killer board is a dexterity scale. Once you have made a successful kill, this moves up one place. Also, on the killer board, it indicates that I get 1+ advantage on prey cards with people that have Grey hair or Hazel eyes.

On your turn, you choose to do 3 of the following actions: hunt for prey (this allows you to place a prey card onto one of the six cities on the board), travel (roll a dice to move across states of to a different city), attack a victim using cards from your hand (the cards you play have to have a combined numerical score that is higher than the number displayed in your prey’s shield), create a scene (by using a scenario card) or discard up to 2 cards and draw up 2 more from the deck.

Each city on the board has a heat tracker, when you attack a victim, the heat in the city will increase which will also impact the city’s defence.

The game ends when a player reaches the end of their killer dexterity scale and the person who has the most points after adding up the numbers displayed in the stars on the prey cards they have successfully managed to get, wins the game.

Impressions:

  • This is a fun game to play with a group of friends.

  • The components and concept of the game are brilliant. I did a blind unboxing of the game and the game components just fit the theme so well and I applaud Barley Suitable Games for that.

  • We did it where we blindly chose which killers we would play as and I think this is a better way to play the game. I think the killer boards are great as well and they contain the right amount of information and details.

  • I wish the game involved reference cards for each player. There are reference boxes on each corner on the board but some of us found these difficult to read.

  • This game would be perfect for true crime documentary fans!
